Empire Alpaca Extravaganza October 22nd - 25th, 2010	An AOBA-certified show with halter and performance classes. 750+ animals expected. Check-in is on Friday October 22 with the classes starting Saturday morning. A top show with 225+ farms, lots of vendors, educational seminars, fiber arts demonstrations and other great activities. Halter judges: Amanda VandenBosch - black. fawn, light, and white huacaya males Tim Lavan - black through white huacaya females Helen Humphreys - all suris, brown, gray, and multi huacaya males, gray and multi huacaya females. Raising Alpacas 101
October 2nd Steve McCarthy will again be teaching "Raising Alpacas 101" at Spruce Ridge Farm in conjunction with SUNY Ulster. This is the third time this course has been offered at Spruce Ridge and it is very well received with great reviews from participants. The seminar will have both classroom and hands-on components. Topics to be covered include:

Brief history of alpacas

Overview of the USA alpaca industry

Animal husbandry including hands-on demonstrations

Nutrition

Parasites

Reproduction

Fiber information and evaluation
